Description

Holly Cottage is a lodge that has been converted into a house, built in 1868 and designed by R. W. Johnson. The structure is made of coursed and squared ironstone with limestone ashlar dressings and features Swithland slate roofs. It has a chamfered plinth, quoins, bracketed eaves, and pierced bargeboards with finials. The building includes a single lateral stack, paired ridge stacks, and a single gable stone stack. It is two storeys high and has three bays, arranged in a T-plan.

The west front features a central gabled wooden porch with arch braces and a moulded pointed doorcase that holds a part-glazed door. To the left, there is a projecting gabled wing with a canted hipped bay window containing three plain casements. To the right, there is a single-storey bay with a square gabled bay window that has a foiled triple lancet in a pointed arched reveal. Above the door, there is a gabled cross eaves dormer with a cusped single lancet, and to the left of this dormer, there is a gable with a cusped double lancet casement in a segmental pointed reveal.

On the north side, facing the street, there is a double lancet to the right. The rear of the building has a gabled wing with a shouldered doorway and a mullioned casement, along with a double lancet above it. To the left, there is a lean-to addition featuring a 20th-century casement, and above this, there is a cross eaves gabled dormer with a single lancet. This building was originally constructed as a lodge for the north entrance to Edmondthorpe Hall.
