Description

The Former West Lodge at Edmondthorpe Hall is a house that was originally built as a lodge in 1867, likely designed by R. W. Johnson. It is constructed in the Tudor Revival style, featuring coursed and squared ironstone with limestone ashlar dressings and slate roofs. The building has coped gables and dormers, along with three external lateral stacks. Notably, the rainwater heads are inscribed with '18 AD 67'.

This two-storey structure has a T-plan and consists of two bays. The south front includes a three-bay lean-to porch supported by three octagonal iron columns, with openings that have cusped Gothic arched heads and traceried spandrels. To the right of the porch is a pointed doorway with a close boarded door and decorative hinges, alongside a two-light wood mullioned casement. Above the porch, there is a cross eaves dormer featuring a two-light mullioned casement.

To the right of the porch, a gabled wing contains a two-storey canted hipped bay window, which has paired wood mullioned sashes on each floor, flanked by single plain sashes. Above this bay window is a trefoil light. The east side of the building features a central mullioned paired sash with a hood mould, and above it, a dormer with a similar paired sash. The west side has a similar central paired sash with a hood mould, and above it, another similar sash. Above this is a crested datestone inscribed 'WAP 1867'.

On the rear elevation, there is a gabled wing to the left with a chamfered pointed doorway, flanked to the left by a paired mullioned sash with a hood mould. Above this is a single sash with a hood mould, and in the return angle, there is a small casement. Outside, there is an L-plan coped yard wall with a coped gable leading to the privy. This building was constructed as a lodge for the Edmondthorpe Hall Estate.
