Description
The Former Grammar School, now a social club, was built in 1637 and altered in 1885. It was founded by Sir John Sedley. The building is constructed of ironstone ashlar with limestone dressings and features a slate roof with ashlar coped gables and moulded kneelers. It has a chamfered plinth and flush ashlar quoins. The structure is two storeys high and consists of three bays.
On the west gable, there is a central moulded doorway with a depressed four-centred arched head and a hood mould. Above this doorway is a blocked window that contains an inscribed tablet from 1885, along with a shield featuring a crest. The east gable has a blocked three-light mullioned window with a hood mould above it. The south side of the building has three three-light mullioned windows with coved mullions, while the north side has two smaller three-light mullioned windows. A slate tablet indicates that the building was converted into a Reading Room in 1885.
