Description

The Priory is a house dating from the late 17th century, with additions and alterations from the 19th and mid-20th centuries. It is constructed of coursed and squared ironstone with limestone ashlar dressings, and has a Collyweston slate roof. Four stone gable stacks are present, two featuring 19th-century Tudor-style patterned pots, and one has a capped external gable stack. The south front has three bays and two storeys plus attics. A central 19th-century gabled porch has a chamfered four-centred arched doorway, flanked by three-light mullioned windows with moulded mullions and flat hoods; the windows have a central glazing bar sash flanked by single fixed lights. To the left of the porch is a small buttress. Above the porch, a two-light mullioned casement sits beneath a small cross eaves gable, flanked by three-light mullioned casements. Above this level are two 19th-century gabled dormers, each with a round-headed casement. The east side has a 20th-century parapeted flat-roofed porch with a four-centred arched door. To its right is a 19th-century gabled wing with a recessed 20th-century casement flanked by three-light mullioned casements, all under a continuous hood mould. Above this are similar windows, with a blank central window. A 17th-century two-light mullioned casement is visible above to the left. On the east side, facing the street, a three-light casement is to the left and a smaller mullioned casement to the right. Above these are a squat, off-centre three-light mullioned casement flanked to the left by a taller three-light casement and to the right by a single casement, all with flat hoods. Above again, to the left, is a gabled dormer with a two-light mullioned casement and hood mould.
