Description

The Thatches is a group of three cottages that have been converted into a single house. They date from the mid 18th century and 19th century. The building is constructed from coursed and squared ironstone, with some areas rendered, and features limestone ashlar dressings and concrete tile roofs. It has three ridge stacks and a paired gable stack, all made of stone with plain copings.

The south front is one and a half storeys high and consists of three bays. It has a central two-light casement window with a wooden lintel, flanked on the left by a partly blocked doorway and on the right by a close boarded door. There are two-light casement windows on either side, with the left one also having a wooden lintel. Further to the left, there is another close boarded door with a wooden lintel. Above, there are three 20th-century cross eaves dormers, each with 19th-century two-light casements.

On the east side, there is a two-light casement window flanked on the left by a close boarded door and on the right by a small casement with a gabled head. Above this, to the left, is another two-light casement. There is a lower 19th-century addition to the left with a brick corner stack, and to the right, there is another close boarded door. The south gable features a 20th-century casement window.

The west side, facing the street, has an off-centre two-light casement window flanked by single recessed 20th-century doors. Above this, there are three two-light casement windows. The north side has an off-centre 20th-century two-light casement window, with a smaller single casement to the left and another two-light casement with a wooden lintel to the right. Above, there are two two-light casements.
