Description

The Old House is a house from the 18th and 19th centuries located on Station Road in Cropston. It is constructed of red brick and features a Swithland slate roof with ridge and end stacks. The building is 2½ storeys tall and has three horizontal sliding sash windows with cambered lintels. The central entrance has a 19th-century stone doorcase with pilasters and a cornice on consoles, and there is a blocked round-arched doorway to the right with a 1-light casement window inside it. On the left side, there is a small canted bay and a 2-light casement window, with a 1-light casement above it in the attic. The rear of the house has mid-19th-century walling, casements, and doors.

To the right, there is a two-storey extension featuring a rectangular French window bay and an 8/8 sash window above. Inside, the house includes chamfered beams, an inglenook fireplace, a slate floor, and earlier 18th-century doors. A tie beam truss can be seen on the first floor. It appears that an early 18th-century house was possibly refaced at the front later in that century and then again at the sides and rear in the mid-19th century. There is a county fire mark above the door, and fragments of original timber framing can be seen on the garage to the right.
