Description

Cropstone House is an 18th-century and early 19th-century farmhouse situated on Cropston Road in Thurstaston. The farmhouse is constructed from granite and slate rubble stone with limestone and red brick dressings, brick eaves, and a Swithland slate roof with end stacks, the stack on the right partly projecting. The front elevation features two storeys of three casement windows with limestone jambs and brick cambered lintels. Two stone steps lead to an early 19th-century open porch with a flat roof and decorative cast iron corner supports, containing a partly glazed door and a two-light casement above. To either side of the porch are probable early 19th-century French windows, each with two leaves and small panes within a wooden frame, accessed by two slate steps, each with a centre opening three-light casement and toplights above. A two-storey wing extends from the right end, featuring a three-light casement and a two-light window on both floors at the right end. A further two-storey wing is located to the rear, incorporating painted brick and a rubble stone rear wall, with ridge and end stacks. Internally, the farmhouse has exposed beams and an inglenook.
