Description
The Town Hall, now functioning as a theatre, was built in 1855 by William Slater and features an Italianate design constructed from ashlar. It is a two-storey building with a nine-window arrangement in a 3-3-3 pattern and a central projection. The entrance consists of a central 20th-century door, flanked by round-headed sash windows that have margin lights, moulded architraves, and hoodmoulds—curved and bracketed on the ground floor and flat on the first floor. The central section of the building has windows that are linked by arcading to the right side. There are moulded stringcourses between the ground and first floors, as well as at the cill level of the first floor. A bracketed cornice is topped with a balustrade. The building features a two-stage bellcote with a steep lead roof and a weathervane, and a clock was added later. The interior was remodeled around 1980 for use as a theatre and is not considered to have special architectural interest.
