Description
54 Baxtergate is a late 19th-century building that originally served as auction rooms and is now used as hospital offices. It is constructed of brick with terracotta and tiling, featuring plain tile roofs with lead capping and finials. The design is eclectic, showcasing elements of the Arts and Crafts movement. The building has two storeys and an attic, with a carriage arch to the left. The main block projects and displays irregular asymmetrical fenestration. A central recessed door is located beneath an oval window and a triangular pediment, with elliptical shop windows on either side. The first floor and attic feature oriel windows that are linked by balusters. Decorative tiling and tile hanging can be seen at the attic level, and the building is topped with a steep pyramidal roof. To the left, there is an octagonal turret adorned with round-headed cusped blind arcading and a ribbed conical roof.
