Description
This is a house, originally probably dating from the 16th century, now used as two shops. It has a timber-frame construction, with post and panel framing visible through the partly demolished section on the right. The front elevation was rendered with stucco in the early 19th century. The house is two storeys high, with a three-window front (a 1-1-1 arrangement), including a central gabled projection. Angle quoins are present and the gable has bargeboards. A sash window occupies the first floor centre, flanked by 20th-century three-light windows. The ground floor has 20th-century shop fronts. The roof is covered in Swithland slate. A substantial stone chimney stack has been heightened in brick. Inside, on the first floor, there is a medieval stone fireplace with angle columns carved from the inner faces of the jambs and a simple flat head. A timber-framed rear wing has been partly rebuilt in brick, with a later brick extension built parallel to the main block.
