Anstey School And No 1

This building, dating from 1873, comprises a school and associated school house. It is constructed of granite and slate rubble stone with stone dressings, a stone and blue brick plinth, stone and red brick bands, and elaborate brick eaves with stone kneelers. The slate roof has red ridge tiles and a wooden ridge bell turret with a slate and lead pinnacle roof. The design is in the Gothic style, featuring stone plate tracery windows with hood moulds and label stops.

The front facade is characterised by three large gables that progressively project to the left. The school house, to the left, is two storeys high and has a rectangular three-light bay window and a two-light window above. The front door to the school house is set within a stone surround, with a carved tablet dated 1873 above it. Two single-light windows flank the door. The central school gable contains a large four-light window with a small bull's eye window above. A gabled porch is located in the recess, with a single-light window on each side, and truncated stone stacks in the angles. The right gable has a two-light window with a bull's eye window above, and two single-lights on the right end, facing Bradgate Road. A three-light window is found in the gable end of the range behind.

The rear elevation features a row of five three-light lancet-type windows with brick surrounds, interspersed with four brick and stone buttresses. A projecting stone and brick stack and a two-light window with top lights are located on the left end of the school house. The building has group value alongside the church diagonally opposite.
