Description
The building is a school and school master's house, dated 1874. It is constructed of brick with stone dressings and has a slate roof. The school is a single range with a buttressed gable facing the street. This gable features three foiled lancets with a foiled circle above, all set beneath a two-centred relieving arch. The date is carved in the spandrels, and there is an outer blue brick arch. A blue brick sill course runs along the bottom, and the gable is finished with tumbled brick and a stone coping. The side elevation includes a two-centred arched doorway and three chamfered stone mullioned three-light windows.
Adjoining to the north is the former school master's house, No. 17, which is 1½ storeys tall and has three bays with picturesque Gothic details. To the left of the doorway, which is set in a stone gabled porch, is a three-light window, and to the right is a two-light window. There is a blue brick string course, and two upper dormer gables that are coped and corbelled out, featuring square stone chamfered mullioned lights. The first floor displays blue brick diaper work. Both buildings have banded slate roofs and are included for their group value.
