Description

The Limes is a house dating from the late 16th and 17th centuries, with subsequent alterations. It is constructed of red brick, some incorporating black headers and diaper patterns, with areas of timber framing and a 20th-century shingle roof. Two stacks are visible on the front roof slope, one at the right end and one at the left. A gable is centrally located on the right side, featuring a king post and struts, and slightly overhangs the building. A similar gable is present at the rear. The upper floor has two renewed 3-light casement windows. Below the gable is evidence of former jettying. A lower, single-story wing extends to the right, with an asbestos-type roof and a central ridge stack. This wing features a doorcase with a 6-panelled door, and 20th-century 3- and 1-light casement windows to the right. The left end of the house has two 1-light casement windows on the ground floor, and the gable contains a timber truss with clasped principal rafters, two collars, and struts, along with a central casement window. The rear of the property mainly features renewed 2, 3, and 4-light casement windows and a door. A 19th-century pigsty and stable extend from the right end of the house, leading to a cobbled yard to the right and rear.
