Description
This is a ventilation shaft associated with the former Swannington to Leicester railway tunnel, built between 1830 and 1832. The tunnel was designed by Robert Stephenson. The shaft is constructed of burnt blue header brick, topped with a stone coping. It is a tapering circular shaft, approximately 2 to 2½ metres high, and features a domed metal grille at the top. The shaft is located adjacent to the garage of Number 12 Tredington Road. Number 12 and its garage are not part of the listed structure.
