Description

The tunnel ventilation shaft, located to the east of number 1 on Kemp Road in Glenfield, was built between 1830 and 1832 for the former Swannington to Leicester Railway Line. It was designed by Robert Stephenson and is constructed from burnt blue engineering brick with an ashlar coping. The shaft is slightly tapering and stands about 3 metres high, topped with a domed iron grill. Number 1 is not included in the listing.
