Description

The ruins of the old parish church, located about 45 yards south of the south porch of the new church in Ticknall, date back to around 1300. The structure is made of coursed squared sandstone and ashlar. The northwest corner of the former west tower remains standing at approximately twenty feet high, featuring angle buttresses with two set-offs. A double chamfered four-centred arched window is partially intact, with the jamb and the first three voussoirs still visible. The church was destroyed by an explosion around 1840 when the new church was constructed to the north.
