Description
Lowes Farmhouse and attached farm buildings date from the early 19th century, with minor alterations made later. The farmhouse and buildings are constructed of red brick with stone dressings, topped by a plain tile roof with three brick ridge stacks and a dentilled eaves band.
The main farmhouse is a two-storey, nine-bay range, of which seven bays form the present farmhouse itself. This is positioned to the west. Attached at right angles to the east is a six-bay, two-storey range, and a lower threshing barn extends to the south.
The farmhouse's western facade features a flush panelled door with a plain overlight, set below a wedge stone lintel with a slightly arched bottom edge on either side of the central keystone. To the west are three windows with glazing bars, all similarly lintelled; the westernmost window has been lengthened. Above, there are seven similar, shallower windows. The eastern side of the farmhouse and the five northern bays of the east range feature openings on both floors, all with comparable lintels. Some of these openings are now blocked or used as doors.
At the south end of the east range, a blocked gauged brick segmental arch is flanked by stone imposts and a keyblock. Beyond this, the threshing barn possesses a similar tall opening at its centre, with slit breathers on either side.
