Description
The range of outbuildings to the north of Birdholme Farmhouse, dating from the mid-19th century, includes a barn, cow-houses, and stables. Constructed from squared coursed sandstone with slate roofs, the buildings are arranged in an L-plan and rise to two storeys.
The west wall of the north-south range, which faces the road, is mostly blank except for a slightly set-back left-hand end that features a pitching doorway at the upper level. The north wall of the east-west range has a blocked wide elliptical archway towards the right and a doorway with a plain stone surround near the centre.
Facing a courtyard, the east wall of the north-south range has six doorways, with the two on the left paired and flanked by windows. To the right of the third doorway is another window, and there are three pitching openings on the first floor. The south wall of the east-west range also contains six doorways; the left-hand door has a plain stone surround, with one window to its left and two to its right. The third doorway from the left also features a plain stone surround and has a lintel inscribed 'HH 1838'. On the first floor, there are two windows with two breathers between them.
