Description
The range of outbuildings to the east of Silkstone Farmhouse is a group of farm outbuildings dating from the late 18th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. They are constructed from coursed squared coal measures sandstone. The east range features coped gables and moulded kneelers, while the south range has plain gables. The roofs are covered with Welsh slates and stone slates, forming an L-shaped layout.
The south range is a single storey with overlofts and consists of two bays. Each bay has a doorway with massive jambs and bonding stones below deep lintels, leading to planked stable doors. Above each doorway are square overloft windows with flush stone frames, as well as 2-light windows. Between the doorways, there are two square openings with flush surrounds and metal bars, below which are openings with angled flagstones that provide access to internal feeding troughs. Similar openings are also present on the rear elevation.
The east range is advanced and consists of two bays with an overloft. It has a central stable doorway beneath a segmental arch, leading to a planked stable door. Flanking this doorway are square windows with deep lintels, and a 20th-century garage door has been inserted into the north gable. Feeding trough openings are located below the ground floor windows. This building is included for its group value only.
