Description
Silkstone Farmhouse is a house dating from the early 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed from coursed coal measures sandstone and features quoins, coped gables with moulded kneelers, and ashlar ridge stacks, along with a square brick stack on the rear slope. The roof is covered with Welsh slate and has stone slated eaves.
The north elevation has two storeys and three bays, with an off-centre doorway that has a chamfered quoined surround and a lintel, leading to a six-panel door. To the east, there is a low three-light recessed chamfer mullioned window, while to the west, former flush mullioned windows have been altered with 20th-century casements. The most westerly opening has been further modified, featuring a deep lintel and no jambs.
On the rear elevation, there are two three-light flush mullioned windows, one of which is partially blocked. To the west, there is the stump of a gabled linking range that once extended to the frontage on Stone Road, now revealing an exposed cruck truss with a collar beam and yoke.
