Description

ASHOVER SK36SW HARDWICK LANE 1264-0/7/47 (South side (off)) Farm outbuilding to the north of Hardwick Farmhouse (east)

GV II

Farm outbuilding. Late C17 with C20 alterations and additions. Coursed rubble gritstone with roughly hewn dressings, quoins, plain gables, and a plain tile roof with a stone slated eaves. West elevation of 3 roof bays, with opposed single doorways at the centre, approached by a flight of 4 stone steps. Doorway with a quoined surround and a massive lintel above a plain plank door. Either side of the doorway are single lancet breathers, now glazed. The south end has a C20 monopitched lean-to, with a segmental arched opening. Extending westwards from the north bay is a lean-to pig cote enclosed by a low masonry wall with flat copings. The pig-cote has a stone surround to its doorway, and the southern part of the wall incorporates two feeding troughs with openings. Listed for Group Value.
