Description

Weavers Cottages is a late 18th-century house, originally a row of three or more cottages, located on Chapel Hill in Ashover. The building is constructed of coursed squared gritstone with tooled dressings, featuring quoined ends and a former quoined corner, now partially concealed by later additions. It has single coped gables, with two chimney stacks, one of brick, one of ashlar, and an ashlar ridge stack. The roof is covered with stone slate and Welsh slate.

The southern elevation is two storeys high and five bays wide, with the two western bays projecting forward and the next two bays raised. A central doorway has massive jambs and lintels, flanked by paired two-light flush-mullioned windows with fixed and casement lights, each with four panes. A blocked doorway, now a casement window, is located where the central and advanced ranges meet. The advanced range has stacked flush-mullioned windows in each bay. A doorway in the western bay is set against the former quoined corner of the central range, with a large lintel and surround. Stacked two-light flush-mullioned windows are also present in this bay. A single-storey lean-to is situated at the east end, with a plain surround to its doorway and a roof of large gritstone flagstones. A blocked doorway is visible at first floor level on the east gable.
