Description
This is a farm outbuilding, formerly used as a stable and cowhouse, dated 1844. It is constructed from regularly coursed squared gritstone, featuring channel tooling and ashlar dressings. The building has coped gables with moulded kneelers and a roof covered with stone slates and concrete tiles.
The east elevation showcases a gabled two-storey range in the center, flanked by single-storey ranges with hipped gables, each consisting of three bays. The central range includes a tall, wide quoined doorway beneath a stone lintel that is dated. Above this doorway is a stilted semicircular-headed opening with radiating glazing bars in the fanlight. There is also a rectangular perch above, which has six openings for an attic dovecote with six entry holes.
The flanking ranges originally featured three doorways each, providing access to cattle standings. These doorways have massive stone frames, with the central doorways now converted into windows and blocked below sill level. The remaining doorways have planked stable doors. The rear elevation includes a flight of stone steps leading to a taking-in doorway for the central gabled range. This building is listed for its group value.
