Description
This range of farm outbuildings, located to the south-west of Grange Farmhouse, dates from the late 18th century and underwent alterations in 1857. Constructed from coursed rubble coal measures sandstone, the buildings feature both slates and stone slates on the roofs. The north-west elevation presents a stepped range, with the northern part being taller. It includes a central ground floor doorway that has a massive quoined surround, a deep lintel, and a planked stable-type door. There are two square taking-in openings on the first floor, along with one door-sized opening, all fitted with plank doors. The gable at the south end has been reconstructed and is dated 1857; it incorporates an ashlar dovecote designed as a blind gothic arch, with perch platforms divided into six compartments, each containing two entry holes. The lower two-storey range to the south features Welsh slates with stone slated eaves and quoining at the intermediate and south ends. It has three first floor taking-in doors, each with plain surrounds and lintels. The buildings are listed for their group value.
