Description

The Railway Viaduct at Unstone Sidings is a Grade II listed structure built in 1870 for the Midland Railway's Chesterfield to Sheffield Line, designed by the railway company's Engineer-in-Chief J.S. Crossley. It features massive rock-faced gritstone with brick linings for its seven stilted semi-circular headed arches, which rise from tapering rectangular masonry piers. The voussoirs of the arches end beneath a broad plain band course, and above this is a shallow ashlar parapet topped with 20th-century railings.
