Description
The Farm is a farmhouse dating from the mid 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed from coursed squared coal measures sandstone, featuring ashlar dressings, quoins, brick gable stacks, plain gables, and a slated roof. The house has an L-shaped plan, with a possible original lobby entrance at the southwest end, although this has been altered.
The southeast elevation is two storeys high and consists of two bays. It has two early 20th-century doorways at the centre, which are flanked by 4-light chamfered mullioned windows. The first floor features 3-light windows, all with 20th-century casements beneath plain stone dripmoulds. There is a quoined doorway with a massive lintel at the southwest end, which is now blocked. At the rear, there is a 19th-century extension that runs at right angles to the main range, along with a shallow semi-circular stair tower at the centre, topped by a small pitched lean-to roof.
