Description
The Old School House is a former school house that was converted into a house around 1830. It is constructed of coursed gritstone with flush gritstone dressings and features a stone slate roof with stone gable end stacks. The building is two storeys high.
On the north elevation, there are two doorways that have large stone surrounds. Each doorway is flanked by 20th-century glazing bar sash windows, which are set beneath heavy stone lintels and have projecting sills. Above these doorways, there are six additional 20th-century glazing bar sash windows. The west gable features a wide doorcase with a rusticated semi-circular arch and double doors. Historical records indicate that a national school was being built in 1830, as noted in Bulmer and Co's History, Topography and Directory of Derbyshire from 1895.
