Description
Fox Hall is a house dated 1625, constructed from coursed squared gritstone with gritstone dressings and a stone slate roof. The building features stone coped gables with kneelers and 19th-century ashlar diamond-sectioned chimneys. It has three ranges, with the gable ends forming the main elevation. The off-centre door in the middle range has a four-centred arch, leading to an inner porch with a similarly arched door that has a moulded architrave. The lintel above the door is inscribed with 'IWES 1625', and a coat of arms is carved above the outer door.
There are two six-light recessed and chamfered mullion windows with central major mullions on the west side and one on the east, all featuring dripmoulds with returned stops. Above these, there are three similar windows, and above the door, there is a two-light recessed and chamfered mullion window with a dripmould. Each of the three gables contains a two-light recessed and chamfered mullion window with a central blind niche above.
Inside, the house has ovolo moulded beams and several early fireplaces.
