Description
This primary school was built in 1839 and designed by architect Robert Potter of Lichfield. It is constructed from coursed squared gritstone with gritstone dressings and features a slate roof with stone ridges. The building has moulded stone coped gables with large kneelers and stone gable end stacks that are diamond set. There is a coved eaves band along the roofline.
The north elevation, facing the street, has a central two-bay, two-storey gabled section flanked by three-bay single-storey wings, all in an Elizabethan style. The central doorcase has a four-centred arch with a chamfered surround and a flat dripmould above, leading to a studded wooden door. On either side of the door, there are triple lancet windows with flat labelmoulds and returned stops. Above the door, a coved stringcourse runs across the façade. Each wing features three twin lancet windows similar to those on the central section.
In the central section, there is a prominent 6-light chamfered mullioned and transomed window with a large central mullion, and each light has a pointed head, topped with a labelmould. A plaque inscribed '1839' is located above this window, and there is a finial at the top of the gable.
