GV II

House. Early C19, incorporating earlier fragments. Millstone grit in diminishing courses with ashlar dressings. Overhanging stone slate roof and stone stack to left with watertabling. EXTERIOR: 2 storey and garret. Asymmetrical 2 window front has off-centre doorway in flush ashlar surround with C20 panel door and overlight. To right two C20 12-pane casements and to left a single 12-pane glazing bar sash. Above 2 similar sashes. Left return has single 4-pane sash at first floor and 2 single light openings to garret. Right return re-ordered C20 with some blocked openings, one to first floor right possibly blocked doorway. Both gable ends show signs of heightening and removal of chimney flues. INTERIOR: has wooden folding shutters to ground floor room right. Stairs rise in straight flight from rear of hall with deep set single light splayed window to landing. Roof has off-centre partition which was exterior wall of earlier structure. Access to left side of house is through former window opening with tooled sill and lintel. Earlier roof line to single storey extension is visible, with pegged hollow beam lodged in apex. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: attached to front low garden wall with C20 spear-head and urn shaped railings and gates plus ashlar gate piers with bow curved tops.
