Alma House and Attached Walls and Railings

Alma House, along with its attached walls and railings, is a house dating from the early 19th century, which incorporates some earlier elements. It is constructed from millstone grit in diminishing courses, with ashlar dressings. The roof is made of stone slate and overhangs, featuring a stone stack on the left side with watertabling.

The building is two storeys high with a garret. The front facade is asymmetrical with two windows and an off-centre doorway that has a flush ashlar surround, featuring a 20th-century panel door and overlight. To the right, there are two 20th-century 12-pane casements, while to the left, there is a single 12-pane glazing bar sash. Above, there are two similar sashes. The left side of the house has a single 4-pane sash on the first floor and two single light openings in the garret. The right side has been altered in the 20th century, with some openings blocked, including a possibly blocked doorway on the first floor.

Inside, the ground floor room on the right features wooden folding shutters. The stairs rise in a straight flight from the rear of the hall, accompanied by a deep-set single light splayed window on the landing. The roof has an off-centre partition that was once the exterior wall of an earlier structure. Access to the left side of the house is through a former window opening that has a tooled sill and lintel. The earlier roof line of a single-storey extension is still visible, showcasing a pegged hollow beam lodged in the apex.

The property also includes a low garden wall at the front, which is complemented by 20th-century spear-head and urn-shaped railings and gates, along with ashlar gate piers that have bow curved tops.
