Description

Alma Cottage and Sunnyside are a house, originally dating to the early 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th century. The construction is of random rubble with large, roughly hewn quoins, and a double Roman tile roof. Two large 19th-century ridge stacks are present, one of which is rendered. The original layout was a cross-passage plan, although this has been altered. The house is two storeys high with an attic, and has three bays, demonstrating irregular window placement. The right bay features three- and four-light stone mullioned windows, the ground floor window benefitting from a stopped label. The remaining window openings have three-light, edge-roll moulded stone mullioned windows, with a two-light casement inserted within an ogee-moulded stone surround. There are two door openings; the one on the front has an ogee-moulded stone surround and a four-panelled door. A further door opening is located on the left return. Interior features of interest include a large fireplace on the ground floor, with a dressed stone surround, and exposed ceiling beams.
