Description

The Weavings is a former loom shop that has been converted into a house. It dates from the late 18th century and was restored in the late 20th century. The building is constructed of coursed and roughly coursed millstone grit with tooled ashlar dressings, topped with a stone slate roof and featuring stone stacks.

The exterior consists of a three-storey section and a two-storey section. The garden front has four windows arranged in a 2:2 pattern, with a three-storey block on the right and a blind single-storey outbuilding on the left. The central two-storey block has a doorway on the left with a 20th-century door, and to the right, there are two three-light flush mullion windows, with two similar windows above. The right block features two three-light flush mullion windows on all three floors.

The right return is two storeys plus a garret, with a doorway on the left that has a 20th-century door in a flush ashlar surround, and a single three-light flush mullion window to the right. Above this, there is a former central taking-in door that is now partly blocked with a two-light casement, and to the right, there is a two-light flush mullion window. Above again, there are two single garret windows. The left return is rendered and features an archway.

The street front has 20th-century fenestration with an off-centre doorway under an ashlar lintel, adjacent to a single light window and two three-light flush mullion windows on all three floors. The two-storey section to the right has a catslide roof to the projecting left section, which includes two 20th-century windows, and a set-back right section with a 20th-century door and single three-light mullion windows on each floor. The outbuilding on the extreme right has been substantially rebuilt in the 20th century.

The interior has been much altered. The loom shop was originally reputed to contain up to 30 looms.
