Description
49 and 51 Simmondley New Road is a farmhouse that has been converted into two houses. It dates from the mid-18th century and has undergone some alterations in the 20th century. The building is constructed of coursed millstone grit rubble, with some parts rendered, and features tooled ashlar dressings. It has a stone slate roof and a single stone stack.
The structure is two storeys tall, plus a garret, and has quoins. The front facade displays three windows arranged in a 2:1 pattern. The left section, which is rendered, includes a single three-light flush mullion window with wooden casements on both floors. The right section has an inserted two-light casement and a two-light window to the right, both in flush ashlar surrounds, above two similar windows in similar surrounds.
On the left side of the building, there is a single inserted window on each floor. The right side, which is rendered, features a doorway with a 20th-century gabled porch and a two-light casement window above, along with a plain sash window in the garret. The rear elevation has a later outshut under a catslide roof, with 20th-century windows.
Inside No.49, there is a Queen strut roof truss.
