Description

Hanover Cottage and The Homestead are a house and cottage, dating to 1719, with a 19th-century addition and 20th-century alterations. The house is constructed of narrow coursed millstone grit with ashlar dressings, a stone slate roof, and a single stone stack with watertabling. The building follows a two-unit lobby entry plan.

The front elevation, two stories high, features three windows arranged in a 1:2 pattern. The house to the right has a 20th-century door set within a chamfered ashlar surround, bearing the inscription 'L/ R E/ 1719'. This is flanked by a three-light chamfered mullion window to the left and a two-light flush mullion window to the right. Above are two further three-light chamfered mullion windows. All windows are fitted with 20th-century casements with diamond pane glazing.

The cottage, set back to the left, has a single window and is two stories high. A doorway on the right has a 20th-century door and painted, flush ashlar surround, with a single 20th-century bow window to the left. Above is a 20th-century casement in a flush ashlar surround. The left canted corner return has two ground-floor windows beneath narrow lintels, and quoins are visible to the ground floor only. The rear of the main range has a single three-light chamfered mullion window to the first floor, with both the main range and a projecting extension re-ordered in the 20th century. The interior was not inspected.
