Description
Herod Farmhouse is an early 17th-century farmhouse constructed from coursed rubble gritstone, topped with a stone slate roof featuring one brick gable end stack and one central stack. The building has stone quoins and stands two storeys tall.
On the south elevation, there is a doorway on the right with a chamfered stone surround, massive quoins, and a lintel inscribed with "IM 1703." To the left of the doorway, a window has a recessed chamfered surround and remnants of two mullions, which have been replaced by 20th-century casements. Above this window, there is a dripmould with returned ends, which is longer than the three-light window, suggesting that there was once a larger window. To the left, another similar window with a dripmould is present. The upper storey features two similar windows without dripmoulds, and all windows have had their mullions removed. There is also a two-light window with a square section mullion and an unusual single light window that has a round arched head, with a concave moulding around the arch and three ball motifs set in. The spandrel area above this window is cut away.
The north elevation includes a single-storey outshut, which is partly a later addition, under a continuous pitched roof. It features one two-light recessed chamfered mullion window. The east wall has one recessed chamfered mullion window, which was originally two lights but now has the mullion removed, with a dripmould above.
Inside, the farmhouse has crudely cut beams.
