Description
This is a pair of late 18th-century weavers’ houses, located on Hague Street in Whitfield, Glossop, with 20th-century extensions to the left and rear. The building is constructed from narrow coursed millstone grit with tooled ashlar dressings, and has a stone slate roof, topped by two stone end stacks, one of which features a 20th-century twisted brick shaft.
The street facade has three storeys and two windows. A central doorway is flanked by single three-light mullion windows with casements and flat hoods. Above are two similar windows, followed by two further three-light mullion windows with lintels at eaves level. The right return has a small 20th-century window and a former taking-in door, now a window, on the second floor. The left return features salvaged 19th-century architectural ornament, comprising an eagle on the cornice, terracotta egg and tongue decoration, and a classical stone head. The interior has not been inspected.
