Description

The former stables and living accommodation, now used as a shippon, dates from the early 19th century, with a late 19th-century extension. It is constructed of irregularly coursed millstone grit with tooled ashlar dressings, featuring a stone slate roof and a stone stack, while the single-storey extension has a Welsh slate roof.

The building is two storeys high and has quoins. The street-facing side includes a doorway on the left with a plank door and a flush ashlar surround. Above this are two deep-set taking-in doors, also with flush ashlar surrounds, and to the right, there is a single plain sash window. The left gable return features a blocked doorway with a wooden lintel and a triangular coped entry for the pigeon loft, which has three rows of triangular openings. The right return has a range of windows, with single 16-pane sashes on each floor; the ground floor window may be a later addition. A single-storey extension is attached at right angles, containing a 19th-century plank door with an ashlar lintel and a window to the right.

On the rear elevation, there is a wide entrance with the original plank door that folds vertically and a wooden footboard, flanked by single boarded window openings in flush ashlar surrounds. To the right, there is a single doorway with a plank door and a stone ledge at the front. The extreme left side has unbroken blank walling, and the upper floor is also blank.

Inside, the building features partitioned wooden stalls with a hay loft above, and there are sink-mows for the stalls. The keeping place is located at the right end.
