Description

Fold Farmhouse, dated 1697, is a farmhouse built of coursed rubble gritstone with gritstone dressings and quoins. The building has a stone slate roof with stone coped gables featuring ball finials and moulded kneelers. It has a central stone ridge stack and a stone gable end stack. The farmhouse is arranged in an L-shape, with a two-storey porch at the north-east corner. The porch doorway has a chamfered surround, a lintel with a four-centred arch, and the date 1697 carved into it. The east elevation of the porch contains two single-light round arched windows with chamfered surrounds and ballflower motifs around the arches. Similar windows are also found at Herod Farm and the White House in Charlesworth parish. On the main east elevation, to the left of the porch, is a three-light recessed and chamfered mullion window, with a two-light chamfered mullion window above. The return wall has two two-light recessed and chamfered mullion windows, with a similar window above. The south elevation has two bays that are not quite symmetrical, with four three-light recessed and chamfered mullion windows, two on each floor. The west elevation has a later lean-to porch, a two-light window with a recessed and chamfered surround, originally of four lights. A similar window to the left was originally of two lights, and there are two additional similar three-light windows above. Inside, there is a stud partition and a number of 17th century beams.
