Description

Wolfscote Grange is a farmhouse built in 1649, with later alterations. It is constructed of coursed rubble limestone with gritstone dressings and features a sandstone block porch. The roof is covered with plain tiles, and there are two stone ridge stacks and one gable end stack on the east side, all adorned with plain banding. The building is two storeys high and has four bays. The gables are stone-coped with plain kneelers, and the porch gable has ridge back copings and moulded kneelers.

On the west side, there is a 2-light flush mullion window fitted with glazing bar sashes. The east side has an advanced single bay porch with an off-centre chamfered doorcase. The doorcase features a four-centred arch under a flat lintel, with three moulded panels inscribed 'IB/MB/1649'. The porch contains a panelled 19th-century door with a top glazed panel, and there is a continuous moulded string-course above the door, along with a central semi-circular headed single light window that has a cavetto moulded architrave and cut away spandrels.

Further to the east, there is a 5-light recessed and chamfered mullion window with a dripmould above it, followed by a glazing bar sash in a tall recessed and chamfered surround. Above this, from the west, is a 19th-century 2-light flush mullion window with glazing bar sashes. To the east, there are one 2-light and one 3-light recessed and chamfered mullion window, and beyond that, a horizontal sliding sash in a recessed and chamfered surround. The rear of the building features a projecting staircase bay with a single light window, and original leaded lights can be found throughout. Additionally, there is a well located in the eastern corner of the porch and house.
