Description
The Whitworth Hotel is a late 19th-century building located on Dale Road North in Darley Dale. It is constructed of stone and features two storeys plus an attic. The hotel has advanced gabled wings on either side, with the center showcasing a three-light transomed mullioned window set in chamfered reveals. Below this window is an open porch that has a tiled pentice roof and two plain doorways. Each wing contains a five-light transomed mullioned window also in chamfered reveals, with moulded sill and head bands. The gables are adorned with kneelers and ball-head finials. A central dormer features a semi-circular pediment, and the building has tall end stacks along with end gables that also have kneelers and ball-head finials. The roof is covered with green Westmorland slates. The hotel is tied to the Whitworth Institute and shares a similar design.
