Description
The Charles Cotton Hotel is a hotel built in the late 18th century and late 19th century. It features coursed, squared limestone and gritstone, with gritstone dressings and quoins. The roof is covered with plain tiles and has stone gable end and ridge stacks with plain bands. The north gable has a stone coped gable with a plain kneeler, and there is a plain eaves band. The building has a T-plan and consists of three storeys on the north section and two storeys on the south section, with a total of seven bays. The late 18th-century section to the north has a central door that is covered by a 20th-century stone porch. On either side of the door, there are plain sashes in flush surrounds, with three similar sashes above and three shallower sashes at the eaves. The south section includes a late 19th-century two-storey addition, which has a narrow single bay adjoining the 18th-century part and a three-bay cross wing with a central door, flanked by mullion and transom windows. Above this, there are three windows and a coat of arms in the gable.
