Description
51 Church Street is an early 18th-century building that has undergone some later alterations. The facade is roughcast and features coping interrupted by two small gables with decorative fretted barge boards. Below this, there is a dentilled plaster cornice. The building has an old tiled roof and consists of two storeys with attics. It has two unbarred windows that are adorned with moulded dripstones and louvred shutters. The entrance is framed by a moulded wood doorcase topped with a pediment supported by consoles, and there are steps and railings leading up to the door.
This building was originally part of the same structure as Nos 53-57 (odd). Together with Nos 43 to 61 (odd), the Old Grammar School, and the pavement in front of the Old Grammar School, it forms a group of significant historical importance.
