Description
Owlfield's Almshouses were founded in 1640 and built shortly after. They share many characteristics with Pegg's Almshouses. The building is a single storey with attics, and the attic storey features three gabled dormers that were added in 1848. It has five windows, with the three central ones having coupled lights and mullions. The windows are topped by four-centred arches, two of which have panels with Latin inscriptions. The structure includes clustered stone stacks and has a tiled roof made of alternating double courses of curved and plain tiles, with coped gabled ends. The almshouses were restored in 1848.
Owlfield's Almshouses, along with Nos 38, 40, and 72, Pegg's Almshouses, The Mansion, the Summerhouse, and the cobbled pavements, form a group with the parish Church of St Oswald and the churchyard gate piers, gates, and walls.
