Description
The White House is a cottage from the mid-19th century, likely built around 1870 by Devey, situated on earlier foundations. It features red brick construction with a design that mimics timber framing and plaster infill, topped with a plain tile roof. The building has a banded brick ridge stack and a brick gable stack.
It stands two storeys high with a chamfered plinth. The gable end facing Main Street has a brick and rendered ground floor with a 'black and white' appearance above. It includes a three-light wooden casement window with a single-light window above it, and another single-light window above that. The west elevation facing School Lane has a symmetrical arrangement with three taller bays, rendered at the ground floor and 'black and white' above. A central doorway features a panelled door, flanked by three-light casement windows, with a single-light window above and two-light casements on either side. The roof has two gabled dormers with coving beneath the windows. To the right, a lower brick bay contains a two-light casement window at the ground floor, complete with a returned hoodmould, and a two-light window above it. The building is listed for its group value only.
