Description
16 and 17 Main Road are a pair of cottages dating from the early 18th century. They are constructed of red brick and feature a plain tile roof with a brick ridge stack. The north gable has brick coping and plain kneelers. The cottages are single storey with attics and have a brick band at the first floor and another band at the gable end.
The east elevation consists of three bays. There is an off-centre doorway that has a moulded stone surround with a segmental pediment and a panelled door. To the right of the doorway is a 2-light wooden casement window with a segment head, and to the left is a larger 3-light window with a transom, also under a segment head. Further left is another doorway with a timber lintel and a panelled door. Above, there are two 3-light gabled dormers, and to the left is a single-light dormer.
On the north gable end, there are 3-light casement windows under timber lintels on each floor, with an additional bay to the right that features a 2-light window on the first floor.
