Description
Bank Close, also known as T I Guest House Sports and Social Club, is an early 19th-century building constructed of ashlar with a hipped slate roof. It stands two storeys high and features a stone band at the first floor, a corbelled eaves cornice, and a blocking course. The entrance facade is adorned with five sash windows that have glazing bars. The central first-floor window is framed with an architrave, pilasters, a frieze cornice on reeded brackets, and a panelled apron. The ground floor windows are topped with panelled lintels that have enriched keystones.
A central stone portico with columns, a frieze, and a flat hood is present, though the sides are now glazed. The side facades each have three windows, with the southwest side featuring a central door that has a fine doorcase with engaged Ionic columns, a Greek key frieze, and a modillion cornice. The door itself has a glazed top panel with margin lights and two raised and fielded panels below.
Inside, there is a very fine staircase with curved balusters that bear mouldings of vines. The ceilings are finished with moulded plaster, and there are three elliptical arches across the hall, along with an arched alcove at the rear flanked by doors. A marble fireplace with medallions and needed architraves adds to the interior's elegance. The doors throughout the building have moulded architraves and medallions, and the first floor features arches across the landing.
