Description

The war memorial in the Market Place of Old Bolsover was built around 1918 by Sir Reginald Blomfield and is one of the standard designs by the War Graves Commission. It is constructed from Portland stone ashlar and features an octagonal shape. The memorial is accessed by two shallow steps leading up to a two-tier plinth. Atop the plinth is a base that holds attached metal plaques inscribed with the names of the men from Bolsover who lost their lives in the two World Wars. The memorial is crowned with a cross that has a polygonal shaft and cross-piece, and there is a bronze sword on the north face. This memorial is included for its group value context.
