Description
St Mary's House, also known as The School House, is a house built in the early and late 19th century. It is constructed of rubble sandstone with sandstone dressings and quoins, topped with a hipped Welsh slate roof that features lateral stone stacks. The building is two storeys high and has a three-bay east elevation. This elevation includes two full-height canted bays, each with a three-light gothic window on both floors. The windows have moulded hoodmoulds and intersecting glazing bars. The central bay features a gothic doorway with polygonal colonnettes and a moulded hoodmould, leading to a panelled door, with a single lancet window above it.
The rear elevation has three bays with chamfered angles. It includes a pointed arched doorway flanked by pointed arched windows that have Y-tracery. On the first floor, there is a central lancet window flanked by two-light windows, also with Y-tracery. Inside, there are remains of an open string stick baluster staircase.
