Description
The stables located to the northwest of the Hardwick Inn were built in the mid-19th century. They are constructed from coursed squared sandstone with sandstone dressings and feature a stone slate roof with stone coped gables and a ridge stack. The building is single storey and has an east elevation with six irregular bays.
The central bay is tall and gabled, featuring two round-arched entrances with chamfered ashlar surrounds and plank double doors. Above these entrances is a single light window with a chamfered stone surround. To the left of the central bay, there is a doorway with a shallow triangular-arched lintel and a panelled door. Further left, there is a two-light chamfered mullion window, a broad cart entrance with a timber lintel and a pair of double doors, and another two-light chamfered mullion window.
To the right of the central bay, there is a two-light chamfered mullion window, a cart entrance under a timber lintel, another two-light chamfered mullion window, a doorway with a shallow triangular-arched lintel, and a final two-light chamfered mullion window. The stables are included in the listing for their group value only.
