Description

A pair of gate piers located 400 metres south of Whatstandwell Lodge, dating from the late 18th century. These piers are made of ashlar gritstone and are square in plan. Each pier features 'V' shaped rustication above a plain base, a fluted frieze with a central patera on each face, and a moulded projecting cap topped with a shallow pyramidal point. The ornamental cast iron gates include urn finials on the hinge bar and intermediate crossrail, with spear heads on the remaining railings.
